Way to go Piper Board!  Hopefully some of that money they have set aside to add seating to the football field will be used to fix the practice field as well!  It is a small victory in the fight for better facilities.  All you people that went to the board members should be proud of your hard work!

I'm going to be a senior next year and I think that it is a good thing for any other seniors to get on the underclassmen to start lifting, not that they are worthless but if the shoe fits....also with the "step up" comment, the players who lift to get ready for next year have already "steped up" I stated lifting my summer between 7th and 8th grade and I only rember one or two players, not one or two seniors but one or two players total. Also I think its a good thing for a player to get defencive when someone talks bad about our program because to me that shows that they care and have heart.

There seems to be a lot of arguing and discussion regarding the work ethic of the current football players on the team. First of all, you can't compare all of these players to the few graduating seniors who dedicated their lives to football. You just can't. Two particular graduating seniors will be playing Division 1 football eventually. Not everybody wants to put in the work to achieve all that these kids did. Sorry to all parents, but your kid is living his own life now, not yours. My next point is that you can't tell a kid to be motivated. The kid is going work as hard as he wants to, and that's fine because it is his life. If your kid really wants to be the next Tiger Woods, then he'll train all day to get there. Every kid on the team is not going to be the gym rat. Simply put, you can't make a kid be dedicated, it takes himself. These young men have seen what it takes to be very successful by the examples of the players who are leaving now. They know what the price is to get to the postseason, and if that is what they desire, then they'll do what it takes to get there (because they have been shown how to get there).

By the way, nothing productive is coming from this board in terms of team unity or encouragment from the people who you'd think would be there for the players. It just sounds like a bunch of critical parents (like the ones that sit next to you in the stands and yell at every boy on the field except their own).

To players: If you want to show your leadership, show it by working out in the weightroom, at the track, and on the practice field. Not with your mouth and certainly not with your keyboard.

I just wanted to comment on the last message from a player at a high school in KS who found the Piper website.  We DO have a very nice webite for our boys and the team (but also for parents and fans).  I know I get on this site often at home (and at work, but don't tell anyone) to stay current with what's new with our team.  It was so nice to hear about the new additions of bleachers for our field.  It has been needed for quite some time.  But I really think that the getting people together and organization for the meeting to approach the school board definitely STARTED from the messages in this guestbook.  In fact I know that's true! Just go back to read the messages in the guestbook from early April and you can see how people's messages helped get the whole thing going.  People even were asking for someone to hold the meeting.  Before that it was just "talk" and nothing else.  I know others would have been at the meeting if they had a little more notice in advance.  I like reading the stories and seeing the pictures (and actually I have copied pictures off this webite).  The slideshow was very nice and really appreciated by other football parents that I have spoke with  (I copied even more pictures!).

Thanks to this website many parents and fans and can feel connected to football although it's not even fall.   I get on this site often just to see what the latest messages are.  I just wanted to leave my thoughts. But anyway back to work.

To "bored at work" Piper mom - I also get on this site at work just about everyday even when I'm not "bored".  I feel like I have an idea of what might be going on with the football team.  This is especially true during the season.  From stories to pictures to links to articles I think everyone one in general is kept well informed.  Piper should do this with their other sports and activities.  For example does anyone know how Piper's softball team, track team, soccer team did this spring - I have no idea and although you may not be able to get to a game its still nice to know how other teams have been doing.

I tend to agree with piper mom that the movement for asking the board for money for more seating for the stadium started on this message board.  That topic has been talked about for last several years.  These messages on here got it going.  I wonder if administrators from Piper get on this message board to check out these messages.  They could probably learn a lot about a Piper activity that has a huge following. Or do they even know that this website exists.  Someone please respond if you know.

Long time Piper resident                   Saturday, May 29, 2004                       11:53 a.m.

I have lived in Piper for many years. My kids no longer go to school here but I still am a fan of Piper, especially football.  I went to almost all the home games the past 2 years and several away games; great games and great finishes!  No one who attended the Mill Valley and Tonganoxie games will ever forget those games.  I read the messages in this messsage board because I have become a fan of Piper football in the past two years. Watching Piper football the past two years was like watching a college offense playing football in our backyard at Piper.  The offense was exciting to watch.

Observing things as a Piper resident, this is my take on things:  For a long time Piper was a small community.  In a way isolated from other areas.  For a long time being a small community, people tend to have the mindset of being just being a "small community" and not having a school or facilities like larger schools have, such as schools in Johnson county.    There are still some people in key positions who have been at Piper for many years.  I feel they still think of Piper as a "small community school" and make "small community" decisions.

Just in the past several years that has been a lot of growth in the Piper area; the Kansas Speedway,  Cabela's, and everytime you drive through that new area just a couple miles south of the high school, a new restaurant all of the sudden pops up near Nebraska Furniture.   New homes are being built to the north, west, and south of the high school.  And soon new homes will be built to the east.  The entire Piper area is growing fast.  And with the growth, many new families move into these $200,000, $300,000, $400,000 homes.   Piper can no longer be considered a "small community".  And these new families moving into Piper don't want to feel like they live in "small community Piper".  They want to see growth.  Piper schools will have to plan for much improvements and new additions in the near future because there will be an increase in school enrollment.  Not having any kids still attending Piper I still feel it would benefit Piper to start looking to the future and begin their gradual updates and improvements ASAP.  The new bleacher additions for the stadium is just the start.  That addition was long overdue.  But certain people who have been at Piper for many years never thought that that was needed.  Have they also considered a new concession stand for the visitors side.  Or do they expect the visiting fans to walk around the track, up the hill, and behind the stadium to get to the concession stand. That is a long walk.

I read the messages left on this message board and read about how fans and parents are trying to encourage their sons and other players to be more dedicated to working out.  That is very unfortunate that this has to be a constant reminder to players. It sounds as if there are players who have the mentality of the players from 20-30 years ago that didn't believe in lifting weights.  It appears that there are fans and parents that want Piper to again be good next fall more than the returning players do. I was also amused about the comments about students not being able to get on the football website from school computers.  Once again "small school thinking".  Many of these people making these decisions didn't grow up in the computer age and probably have a very minimal concept of computers.  But let me assure you if students want to get on any website form a school computer they will.  All they have to do is type in to Google or Yahoo and do a search of Piper football and then click on the link to this site and they're on.

Piper will not change fast enough and grow as it should until certain people either change their "small school mindset" or retire, or leave their positions.  Just one or two new people brought in to key positions with new ideas would make a tremendous difference.

nicely stated Piper resident.  I agree.  I don't think that anyone wants to continue to be "small community Piper".  The school district needs to grow physically because the Piper area is growing.  A couple new faces in certain district positions would most definitely bring in new ideas and improvements to the stale thinking we have been having.

I haven't been on this site for months and didn't realize that people were still getting on this site and leaving messages on the message board.  There are a lot of good messages to read.   It has taken me awhile to get caught up.  Many good valid points have been made.  The two recent messages concern me very much. Isn't it strange that is is so clear to any parent or player or observer why things aren't not getting done with the athletic teams.  Even residents with no children in the schools know what is going on.  And please don't anyone leave a message saying that it's a money issue.  It doesn't appear to be a money issue for other schools.   Our sports teams shouldn't be on hold because of this situation.  And people should not have to be so thankful for new additions to the stadium that have been overdue for years. These additions should be expected if everyone would do what their responsible for.  We could be providing a lot better for our kids.  But let's be positive and hope for another good season this fall.

I know some of you don't like rumors but this is too good not to share... rumor is that Piper will now have 5 players due to an injury. The 5th player Jeff Hamilton will be joining quarterback Scott Lipovac, running back-defensive back Shawnn Lampson, offensive-defensive lineman Jeff Juliano, and punter-place kicker Matt Mosier.
The rumor mill also has it that Piper will have another coach in the all-star game with Coach Dorian joining Head Coach Dick Tatro and Offensive Coordinator Ray Lipovac ...  WOW, 5 players and 3 coaches, when our KS kids win it will really reflect well on Piper's Football program.  Remember these are rumors.

An update...... as far as I know...... there are more players going to the weight room now,  the 7 on 7 team got rained out last week and there is a new person coaching the team.... I don't think there are many player led practices, last year the players worked out on their own on the game field all the time! ....  I haven't heard anything about improvements to the stadium.... as far as new bleacher additions, improvements to the game field, practice field improvements, a new concession stand on the visiting side.... maybe another parent or piper person can update us on these and other issues.

Happy Father's Day to all Piper fathers.

Pirate Dad                                           Sunday, June 20, 2004                 9:23 p.m.

I found this on the internet and thought I would share it with other Piper Dads on Fathers's Day.  This is from Joe Morgan, Hall of Fame baseball player.

"In Honor of My Dad.
This column is in memory of my father, Leonard Morgan (March 4, 1919-May 18, 2004).

When I was a kid, I thought my father was a combination of Superman and Captain Marvel. I thought he was invincible. As an adult, I've always felt the same way. He always bounced back from any adversity.
I found out last week -- on Tuesday, May 18, the day my father passed away -- that he was not Superman. My dad was just a great man ... and not only a great man but also a great father and a great teacher.

He taught me how to be a man. He taught me responsibility. I inherited a great work ethic, and he taught me what it meant to be a Morgan. Sometimes I hear people say that their dad was their best friend. My father wasn't just my best friend -- he was my dad. My friends didn't teach me these life lessons, my dad did. Moreover, he always took time to tell each of his children that he loved us. And my dad and I would take time to say we loved each other.

I have enough great memories of my dad to last me another lifetime.

The greatest time I shared with my dad was on one of his birthdays.

During my Big Red Machine years, manager Sparky Anderson, Reds announcer Marty Brennaman and a number of my teammates -- including Johnny Bench, Pete Rose and Tony Perez -- all spent time with my father. Each one would ask me, half-jokingly and half-seriously, "Why can't you be more like your dad?" When each of them called last week to express their condolences, I was reminded of what they said three decades ago.

My family and I will create an appropriate memorial for my dad related to education. My personal memorial to him will be to do everything I'm involved in better -- including being a better father. Most of all, I'll try to be more like my dad, which will make me a better person.

Now that my dad is gone, the toughest times for me will be Sundays. Sunday was my dad's favorite day. He would go to church in the morning, spend time with his family in the afternoon and then watch ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" (for which I've been an analyst since 1990).

When I retired from baseball, someone said to me, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." I'm crying now because my dad's life is over, but I will soon be able to smile again because I was blessed to have such a great father."

I liked the most recent message left with the story about Joe Morgan and his dad.  It's a great example of the importance of fathers and mothers have in their children's lives.   Although children may take many things for granted when they are young from their parents they will someday realize just how important and influential their parents have been on their life.

We think we won however as chad shore  made a diving catch in the endzone on the last play of the game. The offical said he was out but we think he drug his foot. We played well and had 14 players there.

#1 Fan of the Pirates                          Thursday, June 24, 2004               10:11 a.m.

Football season is just less than 2 months away.  I want to give my predictions on this fall for the piper Pirates.  I attended all Piper games last year and I live in a neighborhood near players that are on the football team and talk with them and their parents and will give my predictions for '04 season:  ------ Piper loses a lot of starters from last year.   8 on offense, 7 on defense.   Strengths of offense side of team is receiving corp.   Last year started 2 jr. receivers - Anjellati and Shannon, also on team Burges and Shore. plus good young rec's from last yr's 9th gr. team but didn't have 9th grade qb who could throw.  This area of receivers is piper's strong point. Another area that is strong on O is return of TJ Dorain and Patrick Dermann in line.  My sources (in the hood) say these 2 have been doing the best at getting reasdy for this season along with Stephen Hargess.  Big soph. lineman will help.   For running back there will be a battle,  seemingly one possible starter has not been preparing as he should. Competition will not be close. My nod goes to Soph to be EJ James.  Fullback pos. open ---My choice could go to Lance Souciey or soph to be.   QB position will be another battle between Dick Weddle and Stephen Hargess.  Hargess is tuffer, smarter, and more of leader, my nod goes to Hargess in close race.  He did good in 9th grade year.  Tight end will go to Josh Willie. He could do good at catching and blocking.   Defense strong points - Dorain, Dermann, Hargess, and Willie.  All 4 will be among league's best. Need to find new LB's,  in def secondary DJ Brown will start.  Weddle got beat deep too much.   Need to find 3 new defensive backs to go with hargess.  Sounds like many off of last year's frosh team can play. This year's team may have to have a lot of sophmore starters.  Although I want to see another great pirate season I think this year will be rebuilding year.  My prediction for 2004 ------- Piper will be 3- 6 or 4-5 at best.  2005 season will be much better.

The last message had some first names wrong and i don't agree with the prediction for our record this year  we'll do better than 4-5 but everything else that he said was pretty acurate.  Their are a lot of players that would like to see Steve play Quarterback this year.  I hope Tatro gives him a shot.

The predictions that I just read on here were interesting.  Yes this person did have some first names wrong but he made some good points.  I hope that the prediction on the record is wrong.  The choice of Steve Hargis at QB also makes sense especially since he will be the QB a year from now anyway.  It makes good sense to get him ready now and give him 2 years at QB.  I agree with the other points about him that were already made and think he's the better athlete also.  I think he would be worthy of the competition to prove himself as the starter.  I hope a decision hasn't already been made.

I think the messages about Steve Hargis playing quarterback this year make a lot of sense.  He's a good athlete, has played the position before, and this would give him 2 years at quarterback.  Otherwise we will have a new quarterback this year and next year.  I hope he is given this opportunity to prove what he can do.  And about the previous comment trying to compare him to Lampson,  he is not going to be another Lampson at running back, you can bet on that.

I've heard this before on TV from George Carlin but a friend of mine recently e-mailed me this so I thought I would copy it and leave it in the guestbook for piper fan's entertainment.  This is George Carlin talking about the difference between football and baseball.
"Baseball is a 19th century pastoral game.   Football is a 20th century new world order paramilitary power struggle.

Baseball is played in a park . . . the baseball park.  Football is played in a stadium, sometimes called SOLDIER Field or WAR Memorial Stadium!!

The baseball field is . . . a diamond.  The football field is a GRIDIRON.

Baseball begins in the spring, the season of new life. Football begins in the fall, when everything is dying.

In football, you wear a Helmet.  In baseball, you wear a cap!

Football is concerned with downs. What down is it? Oh, it's the LAST down.  Baseball is concerned with ups. Who's up? Are you up? He's up! I'm up!!

In football, you get a penalty.  In baseball, you make an error . . . oops!

In football, the specialist comes on to kick something. In baseball, the specialist comes in to relieve somebody.

Football has tackling, clipping, spearing, piling on, personal fouls, late hitting, sacking, and unnecessary roughness.   Baseball has . . . the sacrifice.

Football is played in any kind of weather----rain, snow, sleet, hail, fog, major catastrophe, can't see, don't know if there's a game going on, mud on the field, can't read the uniforms, can't read the yard markers--doesn't matter, the struggle will continue.   In baseball, if it rains, we don't go out to play. I can't go out, it's raining out!!

Baseball has the s e  v  e  n  t  h  i  n  n  i  n  g  s  t  r  e  t  c  h .  Football has the TWO MINUTE WARNING!!

And, of course, the objectives of the games are also completely different. In football, the object is for the quarterback, sometimes called the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his receivers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack which may consist of power plays designed to punch holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball, the object is to get home . . . safe."

I know this is diffferent from the ususal messages but thought fans might enjoy this.   Go Pirates!

Sounds like Hargis has been playing quarterback more than Weddle.  I believe if Hargis is given a fair chance to prove himself he will prove that he will do a better job at qb. Hargis will be better for the team in the long run since he will play qb next year too.   I see a lot of holes that Piper is going to have to fill for next year.  I know every high school has players graduate but when most of the players at Piper don't even workout I don't know how they expect to keep winning.  With a group of people who apparently don't believe that there is any value to lifting weights how are they going to replace Lampson, Lipovac, Hamilton, Simmons. Juliano, Myer, Dulaney, Moore, etc.  I hear Hargis Derman and Dorian are the only players that regularly workout.  What's going on?

Atchinson Sept. 24 Away
Imac Oct.1 Away
Perry LeCompton Oct. 8 Home

Desoto Has left our league for the Frontier League. Mill Valley is now 5a and have to play Olathe North and NW as well as another 5a school so they had to drop us to make their schedule. Ward is now in the Kaw Valley taking Desoto's place.
There are running work out every Tuesday and Thursday nights. The weight room is open every day Monday to Thursday. We do have a summer program. Players are encouraged to attend. They must show up in order to improve. The people that are not showing up put them selves in a hole. The coaching staff expects them to work. We do have a summer program but we can not force the players to attend. It is up to them to show up. The Middle school Camp starts July 19. The HS school Camp is July 26. Every one who expects to play should be there. The HS camp will have a morning session from 9 to 11 for receivers and backs. The afternoon session will be for everyone from 5 until 8 PM. Cost is $20 which all goes back into the FB program.

Coach Tatro                                           Friday, July 2, 2004                      11:19 p.m.

The schedule was made last October. The State sets the districts games, the last three on the schedule and then the league tries to match everyone else up with games. Piper is in the small school half of the Kaw Valley, which means we play all of those teams. They are Perry, Imac, Ward,Tongie and Santa fe Trail. We also had to play Lansing and Basehor Linwood because they were assigned to our district. We kept Bonner on the schedule because they are a natural rival for us. This left us needing one game. Mill Valley was not open on the 4th date so our choices were Liberal, Hays, Goodland, and Atchinson as 4A our 5A schools who had open dates. One of the KCK schools could have been a good choice but they were not open on the 4th friday. We thought that Atchinson was the best choice. Sure they are good but so have been Desoto, we have last to them the last two seasons, and Mill Valley has been good. I like playing someone that is good early in the season before we reach district. as far as getting the kids to work out, I think we have motivated more kids to workout this year that in my previous three years at Piper. Last year we had a few kids coming to weight room but none came to running work outs. I think that we will be a good team next year. I think Piper has some great players who just haven't had a chance to show what they can do yet. I am glad the fans are interested in the team and hope you will give the teams support as we prepare for the season. I also think we have a very good staff coming back. Coach Lipovac informed me that he will not be back next year. As you know HS coaches really get paid a small amount for their work and need full time jobs to pay the bills.  He has lived in Piper for two years.  If it had been in my power to hire him at Piper I would have in a second but those decsions are not mine to make. I greatly appreciate all he has done for Piper and I think the team and the fans should also thank him. We will miss him. We haven't replaced him yet, but hope to have a top flight coach before long. Also I like reading the messages but I woulf like to know who is writing them. I notice that I am the only one who signs on with his name. I would like to hear from you, and know who you are. Have a happy fourth of July and a great weekend. God Bless The USA!!!!

As I'm sitting bored here at work ready for my lunch break I thought I'd get on the football website and get caught up on reading what's new with the football team.  I know very little about lifting weights but I do know it must be important so I won't leave my comments on that subject.  I think that there's probably enough talk on that subject.

I have always liked reading the messages about the players.  They have been very nice; the stories and accomplishments.  Piper players have had much to be proud of.  But I was very disappointed to read that we are losing one of our coaches.  Coach Lipovac meant a lot to our son.  Our son talked about him very often.  He often repeated things that Coach said at practice or games to my husband and me.  You frequently here about young people having role models, I think one of our son's role models was Coach Lipovac.

Although I really never knew him I just knew who he was.  I was so impressed at listening to him at the football awards assembly last fall.  I think he had everyone smiling at the begining of his talk as he talked about players and what each one of them had accomplished.  And I think many people were near tears at the end of his talk when he talked about what the graduating seniors had contributed and done for the football program and what things they would leave for future Piper teams.   I think everyone knows it just wasn't what the seniors did for the team that helped changed the atmosphere of our team.  I know there was someone else that also made a big contribution.  I thought he brought class to our football program and had players and fans excited about Piper football.  I know he will be missed by many but especially by our son who was looking forward to having him coach him again.  Thanks Coach.

P.S. everyone needs to get in the weight room. Once your in college things change and if you don't lift you don't play. I moved into the Piper community  just over a year ago.  I don't have kids going to the high school now but will in a few years.  My neighbors told me last night about this website and about some of the Piper players comments on it.    This is my first time on your website. First of all you have a very impressive website.  I've never seen a high school team with one like this. I also went to 2 of your games last year; Mill Valley and Tonganoxie.  My neighbors told me I picked the right 2 games to go to.  I was very impressed with your offense and your skill position players. You had some players that could make some things happen.

I played high school football in Kansas and was pretty good but the team I was on was just average.  But we did have a good off season weight lifting program.   Our coach was in the weight room every day and made sure we were in there also. He wasn't a gym teacher so he was in there after school daily. He was a great motivator and really wanted to build up the football team so he was always in there.  He worked on building the football program almost year round. Because we knew he was in there we needed to be in there also.   He had almost every football player who wasn't out for a winter or spring sport lifting on a regular basis.  And in the summer there were about at least 75% of the team that lifted 4 days out of the week.  And mind you our team was just an average team as far as wins and losses.  But the teams after mine kept getting better and better and in the playoffs every year and everyone knew the reason why.

The Piper players may not realize this because you may not know what other schools are doing but almost every good high school football team that I know of has this same type of weight lifting program.  If you look at any successful football team you will find that they have a great weight lifting program.  That's a must now.  I've known players from other schools who had an even better weight lifting program than we did.  The teams that win state or keep advancing in the playoffs all have year round weight lifting programs you can bet on that.

I have read some of the messages on here or at least the last 25 or so.  I don't have an axe to grind or really care about what player said what to what player.  I don't care that is until my son gets to high school and then I really will care.  I hope that all these problems are taken care of by then.  It sounds like the players at Piper have kind of like a "drop-in" type of weight lifting program.  It sounds like any player that wants to lift can go lift but its really up to them.  Well you would never have played at my school or most schools I know.  And if you did play you would never have done very well.  I hope the players and the coach get all these problems solved soon.  I don't want my son going through what it sounds like this year's team is going through now.  I hope that all of you develop better attitudes and become more dedicated so you can keep your winning seasons going.   I wish the Piper team the best of luck in the 2004 season and look forward to watching them play.

P.S. guys there's no place for profanity and putting down your own teammates on your football website.

I think 7on7 must be over.  I don't know what their record was.  But it would ne nice to have sloan or Tatro give us a report of how they did.  We have this nice website maybe a coach or player could keep us posted with new info. every now and then.  There was a comment on here a few days ago about a new Pirate mascot.  I also like the mascot that is on the 2004 site but everyone knows that would never be approved for the school mascot.

Why haven't we had any news in the guestbook for a long time?  It would be nice if Tatro could leave a message on here about: ....... progress that the team is making, news during the summer, 7 0n7 games, the camps coming up, the fall season, etc.   There are parents, fans, and players that still get on here and I'm sure all of us would like to read Piper news?  If any one else has some Piper news leave it here in the guestbook.  Thanks.

I do get the Piper Press and there was a terrific article in the most recent issue of the Piper Press about Scott Lipovac.  It talked about all that he accomplished during the past two years.   It was a very good article!

Before you start saying anything about you guys even being remotely close to us last year, you should really get off crack. Let's take a look at your explosive offense from last year... you guys scored 88 points the entire season (averaging less than 10 points per game), we scored 273 points during our 9 regular season games (an average of over 30 points per game). Actually, come to think of it, your defense was pretty explosive too! Your fearsome defense allowed 332 points. You gave up nearly 38 points per game. Ouch. I would rank that stellar performance right up there with the '85 Chicago Bears. We gave up only 149 in our 9 games. About the Desoto game, which I will admit was our worst game of the year, take a look at the situation first. Desoto played us (we were ranked #7 in the state) with much more heart and motivation trying to pull off an upset. Their coach said in the paper that it was their biggest win in school history. You guys played Desoto in the last game of districts, when they were 0-2 and already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Not saying they gave up, but it is a big difference playing a team that already knows that their season is over. Comparing schedules: you guys beat Sumner by 7 (very impressive beating a 1-8 team by one touchdown while they lost every game by usually 20 points). Also, you aren't going to convince anyone that you and your 3-7 record is better than us and our 9-2 record when both Piper and Ward are in 4A. That is the typical complaint from a loser when they make the excuse that their opponents were better. Keep whining and make sure you know what you're talking about before you come to a Piper website and say that your team is better.

P.S. What week were you guys Channel 9 team of the week? How many all-stars played in the Mo-Kan game from Ward? Who had more players on the All-Kansan team?

Chad - don't worry about it. At least I and some others understand what you meant.  But I can see how that statement you left could be misinterpreted.  But the problem is that people who read these messages just get bits and pieces of what events are going on with the football team.  If there was a message from the coach stating when the summer passing games were being played and what the results were, or why there haven't been recent games or messages about WHY games haven't been played, we all would have had a better understanding on what was going on.  As if you couldn't tell, there are some very anxious fans who don't think the football team is making the progress that it could or should, but it is NOT the players who people have the most concerns about.  I would just venture a guess that there are a lot of Piper parents and fans that get on this website and read the messages in the guestbook.  But I bet we just hear from the most vocal ones.  I personally know that there are a lot of parents and Piper neighborhood members that want Piper to have another great season. It would just be nice if we could get a little progress report or news item every once in a while in this guestbook.  Not every day and not even 3 or 4 times a week just occasionally would be nice.  I don't think that's asking too much.  People are fans and they just would like to know.  And besides we have this awesome website where it's just so easy to keep people informed.

Chad -Just keep working hard and keep up the great attitude (just learn HOW to spell attitude!).  Good Luck to ALL the Pirate players!

How many players are coming out for football?  Maybe TJ, Chad, or Jared Baker can leave us with more messages about these things since they seem to be the leaders of the team since we don't hear from tatro.

Getting on this website at work got me kind of embarrassed yesterday.  I usually check in on the guestbook of this website at least a couple of times a week just to see what's going on.  I started to get on the guestbook yesterday and clicked on to read any new messages then immediately got called away from my desk and needed to leave the room.

When I walked back in I heard music playing and two other employees were standing near my desk and looking at my computer.  I didn't realize that music was added to the guestbook page.  So the rest of the day I heard people in my office either humming or singing "Cherry Bomb" by John Cougar Mellencamp.  We all continued to have a good laugh about it.  But that's all right I like the addition of music to the page    ( so did my fellow employees! )  The song gets stuck in your head for the rest of the day.

music - VERY NICE!  I can see why this website won an award.

To the Piper players, it's nice to read your messages about the upcoming season and to see you defend your school against people from another school but you should do so without using profanity.   A week or so ago there were many messages from Piper players who used profanity in the guestbook.  That just makes all of us from Piper look bad.

this is from the KS Rivals site www.hovpen.rivals.com  Tradition means a lot here in the early rankings, and of course, being ranked in the preseason means absolutely nothing except some one thinks you 'should' be fairly good this season. That you are still needs to be proven. This is how we start the year this season.

CLASS 4A  Holton has a lot back from last year's team, but a lot of the other teams lost the ship so to speak and once again, Class 4A could be an absolute mess to rank this season, as it was last.
1. Holton 13-1
2. Andover Central 10-1
3. Fort Scott 11-2
4. Rose Hill 7-2
5. Wichita Collegiate 8-3
6. Topeka Hayden 12-2
7. Baldwin 9-3
8. KC Piper 9-2
9. Wellington 9-3
10. Goodland 8-3

It's nice to read that this year's team is ranked so high!  I know all the fans can now expect another great season and know that we will be playing in the playoffs again this fall!  Good luck to all the players.

Well to all the parents who want information on the football team, camp went really good. The high point wasn't the cookout, it was all the hard work during the week.  The most important thing is to be a team and we look like one.  I think that we are going to suprise some people and that the seasons hard work will pay off.  The upcomig starters did well last year and will do even better with what they've learned.  No we don't have any new players from out of town(to whoever wanted to know that). Jeff Sloan is our new defensive backs coach and is doing really well.  He was with us last year but now is actually a coach.  Looking forward to seeing all the fans at the games and I hope that we've answered all your questions so far.

It's nice to hear more players leaving messages in the guestbook.  I know that they're excited about the season.  It would be nice to read even more messages by the players.

While I was checking out the football website I showed a person in my office that was walking by.  He was just amazed at the website.  And not that a high school team actually had a football website but that it was so good.  He then right away called another person over to look at it.  Let's keep up the good work with new information for the parents and fans. Thanks.

I was just on the new 2004 site and saw the announcements for the schedule of activities for the next few weeks.  Thanks for letting us parents know about the upcoming events for the boys.  This helps us stay organized as well and know when workouts and practices are. I like the animated picture of coach Tatro on the website making announcements also :)
