I was a regular viewer of this web site last year.  I thought it was great last year.  From what I've seen so far it looks like this site will be even better this year.  Looking forward to ANOTHER exciting Piper season.

This new site looks good keep up the great work.  I'm still disappointed with other Piper parents that we didn't do more for our team last year especially at the end of the season.  Hopefully, we will be better organized this year in doing something for our boys.

I like the new look of our team web site.  I loved the movie pictures.  I wish the business  web site where I work looked as good as this football site.  Can't wait until football season.
Are the schedules out yet?

I was checking out the line up for next year and it looks like the pirates are going to be tough to handle. One query that I have is why isn't Calvin Norwood on the Pirate ad? His name should be on there shouldn't it? Maybe you missed him. There should probably be a correction made. I have spoke with him and he assured me that he would be playing football for the pirates next season. Let's show him a little love and put his name on the ad. He will be a senior ya know. Thanks.

Contrary to the rumors, I am not dead.  The 7-on-7 team is practicing this Thursday, May 29th at
1:00 pm.  I will have more schedules to pass out, so those who have not shown up to practice need to
come.  Plus, linemen can come to practice too.  Even if you're not going to play 7-on-7 this summer, its good conditioning!  The first game is Monday, June 2nd at 6:00 pm in Basehor.

I propose that we involve a new strategy in our offense. We should punt not only on 4th down but surprise the defense on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd down.  Punting is the greatest part about football I dare anone to challenge that.
From:  Piper

Pirate                       Tuesday, May 27, 2003, 11:19 p.m.

Yeah, right Matt.   Here's a better strategy - how about if we NEVER punt.  How about if we just score everytime we get the ball and GO for it on 4th down.

Piper middle school parent     Friday, July 18, 2003  12:54 p.m.

Thanks to the Piper coaching staff and high school players for providing a great camp for our son.  He has been talking about it everyday this week.  And thanks for putting the pictures on your team web site.  We didn't even know this web site existed.  It's an excellent web site but your fans and followers who have kids in the middle school and elementary schools probably don't even know about this web site at all.  Just a suggestion, could you announce this web site in the Piper progress report newsletter so more people could see your team web site when they cheer for the Pirates this fall.   And last comment, our entire family loved your "Pirates of Piper" picture on the first page.  All of us will be looking forward to when the "Pirates of Piper" "come to a stadium near us".   Go Pirates and thanks again.

Observer Sloan                   Saturday, July 19, 2003  5:07 p.m.

The 2003 Piper Pirate Football Season "officially" gets under way on Monday with the 2003 team camp!  If you are a skill position player you should be at the morning camp from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
The morning camp will be extremely helpful because we will be discussing the offense.  Hopefully everyone will be able to make it.  Coach Tatro, Coach Lipovac, and I will be there to instruct.  Be ready to come into camp with a great attitude, and the ability to show yourself, your coaches, and
your teammates the rewards of your hard work this summer.  Everyone would also appreciate that the comments on this website stay positive and on the subject of this year's football team.  Positive
comments that are directed to the team really give the guys a lift.  Nobody wants to hear about bad parents, that's why we have an athletic director and a school board. Also, if anybody hasn't already
signed up for the team camp, come on Monday and talk to a coach, we would like to have you!

Middle School Parent          Saturday, July 19, 2003  5:30 p.m.

I also want to thank the Piper coaches for their camp for the middle school players.  Good luck this year.

As crunch week is now under way I have to say a final farewell to everybody involved with the Piper Football Team.  Everything is on the right track with this program!  Great returning players, exciting young talent, a commitment to providing the best gear and facilities for our players, and the ability to retain a great group of coaches.  The only thing left to do is WIN!  I hope that every ball bounces our
way, every call goes our way, and most importantly that every point goes our way.  Even though I'm not there with the team in real time you can bet I will be tracking your success.  Have a great season and remember you are only as good as the amount of effort you show!

Coach Tatro                         Thursday, August 14, 2003     7:13 p.m.

I would like to address a couple of the emails that have been posted. I first would like to say that I am sorry to the parent that was at the cook out and felt that I should have given a talk. They are right, I
should have and I am very sorry that I did not. I want to thank all those who came and the Opimist for suppling the meat and cooking for us. I espieally want to thank Ron Kaminiski and Tim Dorian for organizing the meal and all the others who worked to make it a success. I will try to do better in the future. Also the lockin is not an all night affair it will be on the 23rd and will only last a few hours. We practice that morning starting at 8 and the players will be done at about 3 PM. Again I am sorry about the cookout and I will correct that next year. Don't miss the parents meeting on the 27th at the high school. This is for all sports. We will have also football parents meeting at that time.

We have very energetic and successful coaches here at piper from what I have observed and heard. I have just one question. Why does only one of these men teach, I would assume that there energy and
teaching success on the field would transfer to the classroom. These men are great role models and the whole student body should benefit from there expertise.  It is ridiculous that Piper High and Junior
High have neglected the rest of our students by not finding a place for these men to teach. I challenge you to find another High school that has the same situation.

Piper Resident #2 / Parent        Friday, August 22, 2003            8:33 p.m.

The previous message is correct.  Piper should consider itself very lucky to have the coaches they have and still not provide them with teaching positions in our district.  There are coaches on their staff who could be coaching anywhere - ANYWHERE!  Piper administrators evidently don't realize the impact that our coaches have on our sons.  Just ask your sons what they think of their coaches.  Just think of the impact that these coaches could have if they could work with all of our students.    Piper will be at a great loss when these coaches decide to go elsewhere.  We also are anxiously awaiting the start of the season.

We really enjoyed watching the scrimmage this past Friday night.  As a former high school player myself and having watched the the Pirates play last year, I know you never show too much offense or defense at the scrimmage one week before the first game.   But I know the talent is there and the Pirates "college offense" is there.  And the defense will be swarming next friday and every Friday.  After the scrimmage, myself and a lot of other parents and fans talked about what a great season we are going to have.  I'll be on this web site almost daily looking to read news about my favorite team.  Keep the articles and the good comments coming.  Good luck players and coaches.

Aye Mateys, Our Pirate ship may have gotten knocked off a little off course, but you are still early in your journey to a place where no Pirate ships have ever sailed before.  Get your ship back on course, make sure all trustworthy Pirates are aboard, re-load the ammo, re-read your map for THE treasure that eludes most teams.  Play with a FIRE and a PASSION that all young Pirates once dreamed of possessing.  Re-live the Fun of Competition.  Re-experience the feeling of Success.  Remember that not long ago many of you Pirates were Champions.  You have a Great opportunity to Grasp for even more.  Realize that true victory only comes when ALL Pirates are prepared for battle.  Others may try and take away your weapons but the strongest weapon you possess is 40 Pirates committed to Fighting any battle as ONE.   Prepare early for battle.  Think IT, Plan IT, Do IT. Take on ALL Challenges.

A wise old Pirate once said, "A Pirate Ship in Harbor is Safe, but that's not what Pirate Ships are for !"

Set your Sails, Prepare for storms that may try to slow the Pirate Ship down, But show the will and Desire to Fight On !  Take NO Prisoners ! Rely not only on your skills but Fight On with the desire from your Heart and you all will taste victory !

Congratulations to the football team and coaches.  That was a huge win.  The game was well played and well coached.   After reading the message from "A Pirate" I want to share with you a Pirate story.

A pirate was talking to a "land-lubber" in a bar. The land-lubber noticed that, like any self-respecting pirate, this guy had a peg leg, a hook in place of one of his hands and a patch over one eye. The land-lubber just had to find out how the pirate got in such bad shape.

So he asked the pirate, "How did you loose your leg?" The pirate responded, "I lost me leg in a battle off the coast of Jamaica!"

The land lubber was still curious so he asked, "What about your hand. Did you loose it at the same time?"

"No," answered the pirate. "I lost it to the sharks off the Florida Keys."

Finally, the land-lubber asked, "I notice you also have an eye patch. How did you loose your eye?"

The pirate answered, "I was sleeping on a beach when a seagull flew over and crapped right in me eye."

The land-lubber asked, "How could a little seagull crap make you loose your eye?"

The pirate snapped, "It was the day after I got me hook!"

I just read the "Jaguar Player" entry and wanted to note a few things:
1.  Instead of talking trash on the internet you should go to class. In there you might learn that the correct spelling for some of these big words you have trouble with are THROUGH instead of "THREW", or a real difficult one for you might be I instead of i.
2.  I wouldn't call myself a Jaguar Player. By the way you are talking, you are not a true part of the team but just a loud mouth who should keep your comments to yourself because they do no good what so ever and I'm sure don't speak for the majority.
3. Thanks ... I am even more proud of being a Piper dad now. I see my son as well as well as all the other players from Piper acting as a team and sportsmen ... and not like this one Jaguar Player.

I think I speak for everybody when I say, "TALK IS CHEAP".  Saying you're going to do something and really getting it done are two very different things.  Could it be that Mill Valley are paper tigers?  Could it be that this year's game will be a different outcome than last year's?  I think that there is a lot of truth to both of those questions.  Pirates this is your chance to gain some respect!  Use it to your advantage.  All the pressure is on Mill Valley, they aren't supposed to lose!  Stay focused this week, if all 22 guys give their best effort for the whole game, you'll come out with a victory.

Last night was the most EXCITING high school game that I and probably every other fan in the stands have ever seen.  It had to definitely be the most exciting game in the history of Piper High School.   What a victory!  Every player played great on offense and defense, especially Scott Lipovac.   What a performance!  Parents and fans were just amazed walking out of the stadium on the last drive.  I guarantee you that there will be no one, that was in attendance at the game, that will ever forget this game.  Going almost the length of the field with under a minute left and scoring with one and a half seconds left. AND then seeing Lipovac bolt into the end zone for the 2 point conversion.  This game should be on ESPN Classics.

Aaron, Lance and Jeff and Jeff), watching Lampson run or make catches, and watching Scott Lipovac roll out and throw or rollout and scramble and run.  He had a fantastic game.   Great job Alex A. and Chris Shannon.  Great Job Coach Dorian and Coach Lipovac, everyone knows you guys are making a big difference.

Okay, I think the people at my work are probably tired of hearing me brag about the Pirates game on Friday night.  I might have to go find some new people to talk to, to tell them about how well are defense played or how good our 2 Minute Offense is.  Good Luck this Friday.  Don't overlook IMAC.

First, great win yesterday.  Winning at Perry says a lot about your focus as a team.  Having to go all the way back out there after having to wait, plus Perry isn't the easiest place to play, not to mention the conditions.  Whether the metro area likes it or not Wyandotte County football is back and Piper is leading the way!  Piper at Tonganoxie is THE GAME OF THE WEEK in the metro area.  It should make for a great game.  We have a good rivalry with Tonganoxie and the stakes couldn't be higher!  Staying focused and doing the best that you can will equal a win on Friday.  I would wish you guys luck, but the only thing you need is everybody's best effort.  Get Er' Done

Congratualations to all the Pirates. That was another great win.  And that couldn't win have come at a better time.  You played through the worst possible conditions.  The tongy players cheap shot the whole game, The ref's wouldn't call anything, the Tongy timer didn't know how to run a clock and tried to cheat us out of the last 15 seconds of the game,The Tongy players late hit our qb and running back constantly but no flags were thrown.  And there is no words to describe HOW BAD the lack of throwing a flag on the cheap shot against Shannon was.  And then the Tongy fans shooting off fireworks before the game was over.  The players had to overcome a lot.  All of us parents and fans couldn't be prouder.  Good job Pirates.

Also, a very special recognition should go to Coach Lipovac and Coach Dorian.  These coaches never stop looking for ways to make our team win! Coach Dorian, great job making the changes on defense in the game to stop Tongy.

Coach Lipovac, great job getting our offense going against their tuff defense.  Especially at the end.  Fans are just amazed at our last minute offense.

Tongie was the biggest victory of the season thus far. I think that we still got the momentum to go all the way this year. Stay focused in practice and continue to make that extra effort. You play like you practice. I couldn't be more proud of our team this year. We thought that Mill Valley was a big win, but that game did not compare to the obsticles we had to overcome at Tongie for an even bigger win.  I congradulate everyone on the team. Playing under the lights, in front of the big crowds, and playing a game that you love makes this so much fun. (I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about this right now.) You only get one opportunity to experience this in your life, so take full advantage of every play of the game. A lot of you may never play in another football game for the rest of your life after this season. You guys all know what is at stake. Great job so far this season.  It does no good to go on about past games, because you guys know that you're good.  The focus needs to be on the GAMES, I stress GAMES ahead.  Baldwin is not going to be easy.  You proved last season that you could hang with the best in the state.  This year you need to prove that you can BEAT the best in the state.  You can count on me being there to support you guys, but a big crowd needs to help you guys push towards a state championship.  Folks, its just a quick 45 minute trip down K-10.  Go to Eudora and head South about 20 more minutes.  Make the trip, it will be worth it.  Baldwin's fans have a long history of turning out in huge numbers for these kind of games, so lets out number them at their own field!  Its great to be able to renew an old playoff rivalry with the Bulldogs, those of you in the early 90's know what I mean.  Lastly, good luck to you guys.  I'm confident that everyone will be on the same page, but whatever happens know that this community is EXTREMELY proud of all of you!  GET ER'DONE!

YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME!! This is not luck people and pirate players.  This is the most well-balanced, level-headed, and smart team I have seen in years!!  You are beyond your age in execution on the field!!!!
No matter what the situation is.... the big and the small plays - you step up to the plate and they are made by you all. Denfense - stopping points in second-halves;  offense stomping down the field; and special teams (well you are special).  Baldwin - move over...  You haven't seen these guys play theirgame!!!!!!!!!!

Stop the presses Alice!!! What a great idea .... Why not have a Piper Purple Pep Rally on Friday night.

What better way to get everyone together.  Lights, banners, cheerleaders, players, coaches and parents. What a way to show 'em what we think.

Start calling the school. Let's fill up the phone lines.

I would just like to say that I am very proud of our team and all of that in which we accomplished together. I am going to miss playing with you guys, especially since we put all of that hard work in together. We really did come a long way though to becoming a team that had a 9-2 record and made it to be in the last 16 teams in the state. I remember when I came to Piper, and a lot of the students talking about how bad we would be because of a 1-8 record the year before. Nobody really cared all that much then, and people at school didn't even want to come to our games. Now we have made a name for Piper and represented our school well, statewide. I also want to say that for the rest of my life, I will remember this group of players and how much fun I had being on this team. Finally, I want to thank all of the parents and fans for showing their support, making the long drives, and sitting in the cold to cheer us on. It was pretty cool to have a better crowd than the home team when we traveled.

It was a great experience and good luck to all of the Pirates in the future.

Observer Sloan                            Sunday, November 9, 2003                       11:51 a.m.

How do you distinguish a good football team from a bad football team?  Is it the team's record?  Their coach's record?  The school's past accomplishments?  The truth is that you measure a good football team from a bad football team by character, committment, heart, class, determination, and the amount of respect they have for each other, the coaching staff, and the game itself.  Having said that this year's Pirate team cannot be measured on that scale because this team is off the chart when is comes to hardwork, playing as a team, and never giving up.

When I look back on the last two seasons I'm not going to measure this team solely on the fact that they went 15-7 over two seasons.  They won a Kaw Valley League championship, two outright district championships, two bi-district championships, and were the regional runner-up two straight years.  I'm going to remember and measure this team by how many times Shawnn Lampson carried three and four guys to get a first down.  I'm going to remember Jeff Hamilton making the other team's tackle look stupid while dropping the other team for a big loss.  I'm going to remember Matt Mosier dropping kick after perfect kick inside the 10 yard line.  I'm going to remember Mitch Myer and Jeff Juliano as probably the best two linemen to ever put on a uniform for this school.  I'm going to remember Mike Simmons and Aaron Dulaney lighting up anybody who got in their way and Shawnn saving our defense from big gains for the past three seasons.  Last but certainly not least I'm going to remember Scott Lipovac working tirelessly to complete every pass he threw.  Many people say that a team plays as their quarterback plays.  I think that this year's team is the textbook definition of that.  Scott's on the field performance this season, along with countless others will probably never be duplicated even though many will try.  But, where one era ends another begins.  With many exciting young players coming back next season the Piper community doesn't need to count on not winning for a while.  So, do yourself a favor. Instead of thinking about those pesky Eudora Cardinals, or those cheating Chieftains, think about the great plays this team made and how hard your sons worked to realize and do what thousands of other kids only dream about accomplishing.

Putting a finishing note on this season, a huge thanks should go out to the Piper community.  You all provided a great atmosphere for the team to play in all season.  Not only should this community be proud of its team, this community should be proud of itself for the support it showed this season.  I know that the administration, coaches, and players appreciated it very much.

Scott's Mom                                  Sunday, November 9, 2003                        1:56 p.m.

It's been an amazing couple of years.  I know how Scott has felt about the past two seasons and hope it's been as rewarding for every other Pirate.

I read the messages and thought about all of the hard work the coaches, players and even parents put into this program.  However, I really wonder if anyone considers it "hard work" when it's something they love so much.

The coaches put in countless hours for what  translates into little, if any, monetary gain.  Why?  Because they love it.  I would guess none of them ever considers it "work".

The players do whatever's neccessary at practice, films, games, etc.  Why?  They love it.  At times I would say - "Scott - you've got to go to practice"  thinking he's not aware of the time.  His standard reply was "No Mom, I get to go to practice".

I've seen parents commit time, money and much love to help keep their sons happy and healthy.

I have loved hearing about some of the goofy and fun things all of the players, including Scott, have done in the past.  It reminds me that while they may seem big and tough, they're still kids.

Scott's 18th birthday is next week and I have been racking my brain trying to think of an "awesome" birthday present for this milestone.  Something I realized though, is that Scott has gotten a gift from his dad that has been a dream for both of them since we brought Scott home from the hospital.  (Scott was fittingly born right at the end of the Iowa/Purdue game, I can't tell you who won but I know Ray and I were really the winners).

My hope is that every other Pirate, parent and coach enjoyed this thrilling season as much as our family did.

Best wishes to the seniors who are moving on in their lives --  underclassmen, continue to enjoy future seasons and keep the spirit going.

Sure it might hurt for a little while, but look back on this year, from summer camp to the first game and then every game afterward. Remember the highs. Learn from the lows and know that you did your best!

I agree with the message above about the need for our kids to get in the weight room. It is a very key element in the success of next year's team.
I asked the son of a friend of mine one time if he missed high school, ( the year after he graduated ). His reply was, "Yes, I wish I had one more year ... I would have spent alot more time in the weight room getting ready for my last season. My dad was right."
Players need to think about the future now. Not once it gets here. Look at the money the colleges spend on their weight training facilities. This should show you that this is where alot of games are won and lost.
PLEASE start preparing for next year now! You WILL see the benefits.
All the other teams are targeting Piper as the team they want to beat next year. Let's do everything we can to stop them by starting to prepare now!

I agree with the previous few messages.  I hope every player is lifting weights between now and next season.  And i agree - especially the linemen.  Was it just me or did this year's linemen always have trouble blocking against the good teams (Tongy, Baldwin), the teams with strong linemen.  It looked liked we just got whipped up front because we weren't strong enough.  Our son said this year's linemen rarely lifted weights.  Also, i agree with the pirate mom, many of us still have "piper football withdrawl".

Basketball season just won't be as fun.  I know we're supposed to be good but it's not going to be as exciting especially when a Washington player will be the PIPER star.  No offense, but it just won't be as exciting when someone is 6'9" and SHOULD dominate over 6'2" opponents.

And also congratulations to Scott Lipovac for being nominated for most outstanding player in the Kansas City area. That's quite an honor.  He was fun to watch.  He was a playmaker and made the big plays for us passing and running when blocking broke down.  He led us to the thrilling big wins against Mill Valley & Tongy.  Every player, person and fan watching those games knew he made the difference.

Looking forward to next year's season (but I think every fan knows it will NEVER be the same.)

Do you really think Tongie and Balwin had that strong of lines?  I thought they had good speed more so than strenght.  Royal Valley seemed to have one of strongest lines in my opinion.  I don't think our line was as "weak" as you think.  They were just so good against the mediocre teams they spoiled us and we expected them to be able to block the good teams in the same manner.  Sure every once in a while they'd break down a bit and someone would get through but hey that happens all the way up to the pro level.  I think we had several linemen make all league and one even made the rivals.com all-state all-class team.   However the weight room is important as well as total conditioning.  Only problem is most of them are more concerned with "how much can you bench"(one rep max) when it should be "how long can you bench"
Looking forward to next season! A lot of talent returning so it should be another exciting season.

I guess that you people(talking to the ones doubting and putting down our linemen)have no since of a good football team.  I dont think that our linemen had any problems handling Tongy or Baldwin.  I mean i bet not everyone could be a big bad outstanding high school athlete like you but give us credit.  I bet you weren't in the weightroom everyday and knocking people on there asses when you went to block them so there is no reason to criticize our kids.  So thanks and linemen you and the rest of the team did such a great job i loved watching you.

It's not necessary to talk negatively about our linemen.  (But YES we did have problems handling Tongy and Baldwin.)   ALL Piper players had a good season.  But it is a well known fact among the players that the linemen didn't spend much time lifting weights for a whole year.  In the future this will hopefully change.  But every fan at the games knew we struggled running the ball against Tongy.  I don't know if Lampson had 30 yards total rushing the whole game.  Tongy was tuff and so were other teams.  (Much of Lampson's rushing yards came on extra efforts.)  But to all viewers of this guestbook don't make it sound like a team doesn't have to lift weights.  ALL GOOD TEAMS lift weights in the off-season and DURING the season.  Someone check to see how many of our linemen lifted during the last off -season and during the season.   I'd bet very few if any linemen lifted during the season.  But I'd bet we'll do a better job of lifting weights this off season so let's put this weight lifting talk to an end.  EVERY TEAM NEEDS to lift and that includes Piper.  Congrats on a great season pirates!

You guys were so lucky this year.  You had 3 players who won all your games for you - Lampson, Lipovac, and Hamilton.  None of you can deny that. The rest of you were just along for the ride and were just an average team just like any other team in your league.   But your Big 3 will be gone next year and we will kick your butt next year up one end of the field and then turn around and kick it back down to the other end.   And you know what so will most other teams!   As far as you guys lifting weights, Lampson told us the only people who lifted last year were your Big 3, no one else did.  In fact he said you coach had to BRIBE your players to get them into the weight room during the summer with a T-shirt.  A T-Shirt!  Maybe if the rest of you guys would have lifted you could have went farther in the playoffs.  Maybe you guys could have blocked better for Lampson and Lipovack.  You guys will suck next year.  Can't wait till we play you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We will run all over your WOLFBAGS or what ever you want to call your defense next year.  And to your "Piper Person" who signed the message at 1:42 - your a player NOT a "piper person" just be brave dude and say it.  Don't masquerade that your a "piper person".  Baldwin beat you up front on O and D and then ran past your corners.  and i heard Tongy did also.

Although the message from the Ward person really doesn't deserve a response, I just want to say to them that we will wait until next year and show what we have on the field.
One thing our coaches teach our players is class. How to act with class and let the way you act both on and off the field show people what kind of school we have and what kind of person you are. Trash talking doesn't show your class. It does show that you can be a part of the word clASS!
It's too bad that this e-mai, which is similar to another posted earlier, shows the lack of class on this person's part. I know that it doesn't mirror the whole school      ( Ward is a good school ), but they aren't doing themselves or their school any favors.

What the hell are you talking about B DUBS!!!!!  You guys lost 55 - 0, you finished in last place, your whole team was Weiss.  You guys dont even deserve to play us next year.  Try to name one sub par athlete that you guys have, thats right you dont.  Writing this message is a waste of my time, all your going to do is talk about how bad you guys will beat us next year in football, "WHICH YOU WONT".  We will see you guys on the field next year.

Scott Lipovac certainly had a great year.  Does he have plans to play collegiately?  If so, what level and what school?  Thanks in advance.

Football is so fun.  I like throwing the ball.  I like running the ball.  I like catching the ball.  I like blocking.  I like kicking.  I like tackling.  I like intercepting.  I like punting.  I DO NOT like fumbling.  It sucks.  No more fumbles, no more fumbles.  Other than that, football is flawless.  It is so fun.  I like to play it.  I like to think about it.  Spot runs fast.  He is a dog.  Football is cool.  It sucks to be Spot, becasue dogs can't play football.
